If you want to generate organic traffic for your online business, you’ll have to tackle SEO at some point. There’s just no way around it. Having a solid team of search engine optimization experts can make or break your online success. In this post I want to give you my best advice on how to design the perfect SEO team.

Step #1: Specialize

Most start-ups begin their journey toward online success with a one man army of the founder and sometimes a close friend taking care of every aspect of their business, including SEO. And while this approach is gentle on your wallet, being a jack of all trades and a master of none will only get you so far. So my number one advice for you is to start delegating key SEO processes to experts as soon as you can afford it. 

As your business grows, you’ll find that you just don’t have enough time to personally take care of every aspect of your business so it’s best to hire specialists to help you out. Not only will they significantly lessen your workload but let’s be honest – they’ll probably do a better job than you in their area of expertise. 

If you have budget constraints in the beginning, you can hire freelancers for a reasonable price to take care of certain aspects of SEO for you such as content writing. Then as your revenue grows you’ll want to move on to hiring an agency or ideally having an in-house team of experts. That will allow you to have much more control over the workflow.

Step #2: Identify the Key Areas of SEO

The next step is to decide on the key SEO activities that drive the most revenue. To help you out, I’ve prepared a short list for you that shows the 6 key areas of SEO that drive the biggest return on investment:

The SEO manager is the visionary, the strategist, the decision maker that manages both clients and employees. Then sooner or later you’ll also need a technical team for your on-page SEO tasks such as load time optimization and implementing your choice of keywords throughout your site. 

You definitely want to dedicate an entire team to content creation because when it comes to SEO, content is king. You want to make sure that the content that appears on your site is engaging, valuable and relevant to your target audience. Here’s a hint: look for writers with some copywriting experience. They will be able to create amazing guest blog posts bringing in tons backlinks which is very important for off-site SEO.

And the last two key areas of successful SEO are the analysts and the designers. While content is definitely king, having a talented designer that can create vibrant images for your blog posts and infographics takes content creation to the next level. And last but not least you need a trustworthy group of analysts at your side to measure your SEO progress by doing split tests and tracking your key performance indicators.
